Julius Nyango, Abilene Christian University
Sr., Aldai, Kenya
Nyango ran to a fourth-place finish last Saturday at the
University of Arkansas' Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville,
Ark. Nyango covered the 10,000-meter Agri-Park Course in
29:23.28 to lead a four-man Wildcat squad that ran in the
race. Without five runners, the Wildcats did not qualify for
the team championship. Nyango has finished in the top-eight
in all three races he has run this season and should be one of the
favorites to win the LSC championship this weekend in Kingsville
where the ACU men will be trying to win their 18th straight league
championship.

Cameron
No stranger to battling the best runners in the entire nation, the
Cameron Aggie cross country team took on the country's best at the
annual Chile Pepper Festival race hosted by the University of
Arkansas last Saturday. At this year's installment of the
prestigious meet, the Aggies finished in 22nd place out of the 30
elite NCAA teams in competition. CU's total team score in the meet
was 647. At last year's Chile Pepper Festival the Aggies finished
in 26th place out of 36 teams. Schools such as Virginia Tech,
Louisiana State, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Nebraska competed in the
event, which was the first ten-kilometer race for the Aggies this
season. Cameron was once again without top runners Josh Stewart
(senior) and Mark Merritt (senior) this week as both runners are
still battling mononucleosis. CU traveled just five runners to the
Chile Pepper Festival, meaning each student-athlete needed to turn
in a solid performance to ensure the team's success. Sophomore
Mohamed Khelalfa was CU's top finisher in the race with a time of
32:26.90 and a 107th place finish. Saturday's meet was CU's final
regular-season event of the season. The team next competes in the
Lone Star Conference Championship meet next Saturday, October 25,
in Kingsville, Texas. The Aggies will then take part in the NCAA
South Central Regional Championship meet on Saturday, November 8,
in San Antonio, Texas.
