Cherono, Gonzales pick up weekly awards
West Texas A&M's Jeniffer Cherono and Angelo State's Nate Gonzales were named Lone Star Conference cross country Runner of the Week for their performances last week.

Jeniffer Cherono, West Texas A&M University, Jr., Iten,
Kenya
Cherono won the Angelo State Blue & Gold Classic,
earning her third overall victory in successive weeks (having won
last week's Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree and the Incarnate Word
Invitational the previous week). She covered the 5k course in
19:04.00. In four outings this year, Cherono has finished
second, first, first and first.
Male
Nate Gonzales, Angelo State University, So., Wall, Texas/Wall
Gonzales placed 11th and helped the Rams to a third place
finish Tuesday at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic. Gonzales
finished the five-mile race in a team-best time of 27:05.

Brittney Heath placed seventh as the Rambelles finished in third
place at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic on Tuesday. Heath was the
Rambelles' top finisher with a time of 20:23 in the five-kilometer
run.

The ENMU men turned in a second place finish at the UTPB
Invitational last Saturday, 60 points ahead of their closest
competitor. Logan Robertson paced the Hounds with a fifth place
finish in the 8k run. Next up for Eastern will be the Lone Star
Conference championships in Kingsville, Texas, on October 25th...
Eastern New Mexico University The ENMU women
turned in a second place finish at the UTPB Invitational last
Saturday, six points ahead of their closest competitor. Yared Gamiz
paced the Zias with an 11th place finish in the 5k run. Next up for
Eastern will be the Lone Star Conference championships in
Kingsville, Texas, on October 25th... For the second time this
season, Yared Gamiz paced the Zias, turning in an 11th place
performance in the 5k run at UTPB and finishing with a time of
23:20.90. Her effort helped Eastern to place second in the team
standings... Logan Robertson led the Greyhounds for the third time
in four meets, turning in a fifth place finish in the 8k run at
Texas-Permian Basin. His performance helped the Greyhounds place
second at the meet, 60 points ahead of the third place
finisher.

Men's team placed second overall at the Angelo State Blue &
Gold Classic...Jared McNeil was first Texan to cross the finish
line with a time of 26:23 in sixth place overall...Women's team
finished fifth overall at the Angelo State Blue & Gold
Classic... Kymberlee Trnka finished third overall with a time of
19:53.

The Lady Buffs took top team honors at this week's Angelo State
Blue & Gold Classic, marking the second time this season for
them to take the overall team win (they also won the Incarnate Word
Invitational). Jeniffer Cherono (junior, Iten, Kenya) won the
meet, her third consecutive victory (having won last week's
Oklahoma State Jamboree and the previous week at Incarnate
Word). The Lady Buffs placed three runners in the top 12
finishers, with Kristie Hartsfield (junior, Perryton, Texas) and
Belinda Castanon (senior, El Paso, Texas) finishing eighth and
11th, respectively...The Buffs placed sixth out of eight teams
competing at the Angelo State Blue & Gold Classic. Jose
Velazquez (senior, Hereford, Texas) placed 13th to lead the WT
contingent, with a time of 27:31.00 over the five-mile
course. WT had two runners score in the top-20, as Thomas
Harris placed 20th with a time of 28:00.00.
