Cherono, McNeil earn weekly honors
West Texas A&M's Jeniffer Cherono and Tarleton State's Jared McNeil were named Lone Star Conference cross country Runner of the Week for their performances last week.

Jeniffer Cherono, West Texas A&M University, Jr., Iten,
Kenya
Cherono took first-place individual honors at last
weekend's Incarnate Word Cardinal Invitational. She clocked a time
of 22:26.4 over six kilometers, beating runner-up Marlene Gutierrez
of Texas A&M-International by 46 seconds. This was
Cherono's second collegiate meet; she placed third overall in her
first outing.
Male
Jared McNeil, Tarleton State University, So., Saginaw,
Texas/Boswell
McNeil paced the Texans to its first title of the season,
crossing the finish line in 25:48.3 at the Ken Garland Invitational
on the campus of North Texas. McNeil finished third overall
and was the first Division II runner to cross the line in a field
with over 35 runners.

Cameron
CU did not compete for the second weekend in a row last week, and
will next take part in the prestigious Oklahoma State University
Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on October 4th. The Aggies
took 17th place out of 17 teams in last year's Cowboy Jamboree.
Currently the Aggies are training hard for the meet and are looking
to get back in the NCAA regional rankings. CU had moved up to #8 in
the region earlier this season with the first cross country ranking
in school history, but was bounced back out after their
second-place showing at the East Central University Tiger
Chase.
Central Oklahoma
UCO only had three runners at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational due
to injuries and couldn't compete for the team title . . . The
Bronchos had two top-four finishers, with sophomore Alina Istrate
coming in third and Evelyn Berko fourth . . . Freshman Kaleigh Key
was 21st...Alina Istrate finished third in the Oklahoma Baptist
Invitational, running a 19:15.00 on the 5k course.
East Central
Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds and Zias were inactive last week and will return to
action on October 14, at the Angelo State Classic.
Midwestern State

Tarleton State
The Texan cross country team claimed its first title of the season,
winning the Ken Garland Invitational at North Texas. Three
Texans had top 10 finishes with Jared McNeil leading the pack
crossing the finish line third overall. Tarleton will take a
few weeks off before running in the Angelo State Blue/Gold
Invitational on Oct. 14...The TexAnns placed fourth at the Ken
Garland Invitational at North Texas last weekend. Kymberlee
Trnka finished seventh overall with teammate Krista Morris
following her in 11th. Tarleton will take a few weeks off
before running in the Angelo State Blue/Gold Invitational on Oct.

Texas A&M-Kingsville
The Javelinas finished in 6th place at the New Balance Islander
Splash in Corpus Christi. Sophomore Kiya Dandena was the
team's top finisher in the 8K race in 27:20...The Javelina women
finished in 7th place at the New Balance Islander Splash hosted by
Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Jessica Martinez was the team's
top finisher in 28th place. She ran a time of 20:45 for the
5K race.
West Texas A&M
The Lady Buffs took second-place team honors at the Incarnate Word
Cardinal Invitational, held Saturday at Live Oak City Park in San
Antonio, Texas...Jeniffer Cherono took individual honors, clocking
a 22:26.4 over the six-kilometer course, while Belinda Castanon
(senior, El Paso, Texas), finished seventh overall (24:31.2), Becca
Rapstine (sophomore, White Deer, Texas), 12th (25:22.7), Sharen
Diggs, 13th (25.27.0) and Tara Shields (freshman, Spearman, Texas)
finished 17th (26:47.5)...The Lady Buffs will compete Oct. 4 at the
Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree, in Stillwater, Okla.
