Hendrix, Maina earn weekly honors
Midwestern State's Kayla Hendrix and Abilene Christian's Daniel Maina were named Lone Star Conference cross country Runner of the Week for their performances last week.

Kayla Hendrix, Midwestern State University
Fr., Lubbock, Texas/Wolforth Frenship
Hendrix led Midwestern State to a fifth-place finish at
the Missouri Southern Stampede as the freshman from Lubbock set a
program record by completing the 5K course in 18:08.07. Hendrix was
one of four MSU runners to smash the school's old 5K record as the
Mustangs finished third among NCAA Division II teams at the 34-team
meet. She finished 18th individually in the 278-runner field.

Daniel Maina, Abilene Christian University
So., Nanyuki, Kenya
Maina finished third at the Red Raider Invitational in
Lubbock, covering the 8-kilometer course at the Meadowbrook Golf
Course in 24:44.05. Maina's performance helped the Wildcats
finish fourth in the overall team standings.

Winrose Karunde finished fifth at the Red Raider Invitational in
Lubbock last Friday, covering the 5-kilometer course at Meadowbrook
Golf Course in 18:32.41. Karunde's effort helped the
10th-ranked Wildcats finish sixth in the overall team standings...

UCO competed for team honors for the first time this season after
gaining a fifth runner before last weekend's Missouri Southern
Stampede and the Bronchos finished 15th in the 34-team event . . .
Sophomore Alina Istrate led UCO with a 21st-place finish in the
huge race, finishing the 5k race in 18:27.3, while junior Evelyn
Berko was 36th in 19:00.5...

Eastern New Mexico
The men's cross country team turned in a seventh place finish at
the Texas Tech Jackrabbit Open and were led by Logan Robertson's
43rd place finish. The Greyhounds were third in the event among
participating NCAA Division II teams. Eastern will return to action
on Tuesday, October 14th, for the Angelo State Classic... The
women's cross country team turned in a seventh place finish at the
Texas Tech Jackrabbit Open and were led by Yared Gamiz's 43rd place
finish. The Zias were third in the event among participating NCAA
Division II teams. Eastern will return to action on Tuesday,
October 14th, for the Angelo State Classic... Yared Gamiz paced the
Zias at the Texas Tech Jackrabbit Open last week, finishing in
22:48.11... Logan Robertson paced the Greyhounds in the 8k
run at the Texas Tech Jackrabbit Open last week, finishing in
28:11.32...

The men's team placed third at the Texas A&M Invitational,
finishing in front of Division I members Baylor, Rice and
Texas-Arlington. Gerzain Valenzuela led the Texans, crossing
the finish line with a time of 25:23.941. He and five other
Texan runners finished in the top 50 in a race with over 100
runners. The Texans will participate in the UNT Invitational
in Denton this weekend... Tarleton State University
The women's team finished in ninth place at the Texas A&M
Invitational. Kymberlee Trnka was the top runner for the
TexAnns, finishing with a time of 19:38.820. The TexAnns will
participate in the UNT Invitational in Denton this
weekend...Gerzain Valenzuela was the second Division II runner and
14th overall to cross the finish line on Friday at the Texas
A&M Invitational in College Station. Gerzain finished
with a time of 25:23.941, just 10 seconds shy of the Tarleton
school record, as he guided the Texans to a third place finish just
behind Division I members, Texas A&M and Stephen F.
Austin. His top 15 finish helped the Texans finish in front
of Baylor, Rice and Texas-Arlington...
