Volleyball: Six players honored

Six student-athletes earned Lone Star Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors for the matches of Aug. 23-26, the league office announced today.

LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK 

Offensive
Mari Araujo, Central Oklahoma, Jr., OH, Belem, Brazil/Washington Luis HS
Junior college transfer had a big impact in her first action with the Bronchos, earning All-Tournament honors at the Missouri Southern Classic to help UCO go 3-1 against four MIAA opponents.  She led the team in kills, attacks, aces, solo blocks, assisted blocks and points while finishing second in digs.

Abbie Lowry, Abilene Christian, Sr., OH, Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS
Despite ACU's 0-4 record last weekend in the Florida Southern Invitational, Wildcat senior outside hitter Abbie Lowry had an outstanding individual tournament.  The LSC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year, Lowry finished with 72 kills and a .202 hitting percentage as ACU lost to two nationally ranked teams (#5 Florida Southern and #10 Hillsdale) and lost a five-set heartbreaker to Metro State.  Lowry had 26 kills and .304 hitting percentage against Metro State, giving her 1,139 career kills and moving her into 11th place on the ACU all-time list.

Defensive
Lacie Allen, Central Oklahoma, Sr., Libero, Edmond , Okla./Memorial HS
Returning LSC North Division Libero of the Year led UCO's defensive efforts at the Missouri Southern Classic in earning All-Tournament honors as the Bronchos went 3-1 against four MIAA opponents.  She became the school and LSC career leader in digs with 29 in a five-game loss to Emporia State, giving her 1,867 to break the record of 1,833 held by UCO's Alma Brahimaj.

Sesley Graves, Midwestern State, So., MB, Wichita Falls, Texas/Wichita Falls HS
Graves was a main contributor as the Mustangs set a school record for most blocks in a match while going 2-2 at the Comfort Inn-vitational in Pensacola, Fla. The sophomore had nine blocks (two solo, seven block assists) in a 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) Saturday as MSU set the school's single-match block record by recording 17. Graves added seven more blocks in a loss to tournament host West Florida. She also contributed to the offense with 1.71 kills per game, while averaging 2.50 points a game.

Setter
Katie Rickwartz, West Texas A&M, So., Setter, Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS
Through the first weekend of the 2007 season, the Lady Buffs did have not seen a drop in performance at the setter position after the departure of All-American Libby Garza thanks to Katie Rickwartz.  The Canyon, Texas, native piled up 178 assists, including a season-high 43 assists in the season-opening victory over Incarnate Word,.as the Lady Buffs compiled a 4-1 record to start the year.

Allison Schreiber, Midwestern State, Jr., Setter, Windthorst, Texas/Windthorst HS
Schreiber had a pair of 50-assist outings while helping the Mustangs to a 2-2 showing at the Comfort Inn-vitational in Pensacola, Fla. The junior setter had 50 assists and six digs in a five-game win over West Georgia on Friday before setting up 59 assists and recording 12 digs in a five-game setback to Southern Indiana on Saturday.
