Softball: Four earn weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Softball Players of the Week for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
LSC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Hitter
Rachel Lynn, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Sr., Outfielder, Skiatook, Okla./Skiatook HS
Lynn helped SOSU to a four-game sweep of Midwestern
State. She hit .611 from the leadoff position, and posted an
on-base percentage of .632. She had 11 hits on the weekend,
and drove in five RBI which tied for the team-best.
Additionally, she scored a team-high seven runs over four games and
also stole two bases.
LSC North Pitcher
Marjorie Johnson, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Jr., Pitcher, Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley HS
Johnson recorded a 2-0 week against Midwestern State. She
recorded 19 strikeouts and past Christina Cearly for the most
strikeouts in a season for both SOSU and the Lone Star
Conference. Johnson broke the record in 100 fewer innings of
work. She held opponents to a .180 batting average and
averaged better than one strikeout per inning pitched. She
also picked up her 20th win on the season.
LSC South Hitter
Brittnee Rice, Tarleton State University
Jr., Util., West, Texas/West HS
Rice hit .455 on the week in five games, but the junior hit .714 in
the three-game Lone Star Conference series between the two top
teams in the South Division at the time, going five-of-seven and
being walked five times. In the ACU series, Rice had two
doubles a home run and three RBI while scoring twice when she
wasn't pinch run for. She had a 1.429 slugging percentage for
the weekend. In the doubleheader at Incarnate Word, she
walked three times as well. Rice did not strikeout against
the Wildcats in the three games and was walked three times in game
two Saturday and twice on Sunday, none were called intentional
walks, but all were outside pitches to the TexAnn.

Kari Galm, Angelo State University
Sr., Pitcher, San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS
Galm improved to 24-2 on the season after picking up three more
wins last week, including a victory over nationally-ranked St.
Mary's. In her win over No. 20 St. Mary's on Tuesday, Galm fanned
six Rattlers while giving up an unearned run on just three hits in
a 5-1 victory. After giving up her only earned runs of the week in
a relief appearance against St. Mary's in the second game on
Tuesday, she would respond with 13 scoreless inning as the No.
5-ranked Rambelles would sweep Texas Woman's. On Friday, Galm
tossed six shutout innings against Texas Woman's before being
relieved for the seventh. She struck out three Pioneers and gave up
four hits in the 7-0 victory. Then in Saturday's first game, Galm
recorded her 10th shutout of the season as the ‘Belles downed
TWU, 1-0. In that victory, she fanned four Pioneers while
scattering six hits. She went 3-0 on the week with a 0.64 earned
run average.
Brooke Saulters, Tarleton State University
Sr., Pitcher, Waco, Texas/Midway HS
Saulters threw three great games this week, going 2-1 with two
victories against Abilene Christian who was tied atop the LSC South
Division standings with the TexAnns heading into the weekend.
Saulters threw three complete games and struck out 21 batters in
20.0 innings of action while allowing just five runs and four
walks. Saulters struck out 10 Wildcat batters in the first
game on Saturday and added six against Incarnate Word and five on
Sunday against ACU. She ended the week with a 2.25 ERA.
Opponents hit just .213 off the senior pitcher who threw a complete
game in all three starts. She also batted .333 in the five
games, with five hits, three runs scored, a RBI and three walks.
