Softball: Four players honored

TWU's Billie Callahan

Four student-athletes earned Lone Star Conference Softball Player of the Week honors for their performances last week, league officials announced today.

LSC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Hitter
Shareena Pulse, Cameron University
Jr., Catcher/Outfield, Skiatook, Okla./Northeast Oklahoma Junior College
Pulse had an absolutely phenomenal week offensively last week for the Aggies. Cameron went 6-0 in the week, sweeping Northeastern State, Newman University, and Fort Hays State, and Pulse was a big reason why. Her homerun with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning in CU's first game versus NSU gave the Aggies the walk-off victory. Her two-run homerun in CU's nightcap with NSU gave Cameron the 3-2 lead and the eventual victory. Pulse averaged a homerun in every 3.83 at bats this week and averaged at least a homerun every game. Her 13 RBI were also very influential. Pulse has settled in nicely to the clean-up position in Cameron's lineup. Pulse also failed to commit an error after playing at rightfield, catcher, and a few at-bats as designated hitter.

LSC South Hitter
Billie Callahan, Texas Woman's University
So., OF, Austin, Texas/Bowie HS
Callahan was the offensive catalyst in the Pioneers' two wins last week over Incarnate Word and East Central University. In the two games combined, she was 4-6 with four runs scored, two RBI's, and two doubles. Callahan is now hitting .291 for the season with a TWU team-best eight doubles and 12 runs batted in.

LSC South Pitcher
Courtney Rigamonti, Texas A&M University-Kingsville
Jr., RHP, Victoria, Texas/St. Joseph's
Rigamonti went 2-1 on the week with a five-hit, no earned run performance in a complete game 6-3 win over Newman and a six-hit, one earned run 6-1 victory over Texas A&M-International.  Her only loss coming in a 3-2 decision to nationally ranked St. Edward's.  In that game she alowed only two earned runs while striking out six.  She has completed all 19 games that she has started this season.
