Softball: Rambelles season ends at NCAA Championship

Angelo State's record-setting season came to an end with a 5-1 loss to Florida Southern in an elimination game Saturday at the 2007 NCAA Division II Softball Championship in Akron, Ohio.

The Rambelles concluded the winningest season (53-13) in school history. ASU opened the event with a win over C.W. Post before dropping consecutive games to defending national champion Lock Haven and FSC.

The Moccassins started the scoring in the first inning before posting a pair of runs in both the second and fourth frames. The Rambelles lone run came with two outs in the fifth inning as Whitney Meeks plated Leina Braxton with a base hit up the middle.

Meeks and Kandace Kubat each went 2-for-4 to pace ASU. Kari Galm (32-8) took the loss, pitching just 3.0 innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits.

Saturday's contest was a rematch of the 2004 championship game where ASU claimed the national title with a 7-3 triumph.
