Golf: Tarleton's Singh tops women's academic awards
Tarleton State sophomore Shraddhanjali Singh was named the Academic Player of the Year and joined five others on the All-Academic Team Sunday night as Lone Star Conference officials announced the academic honors for women's golf at the championship banquet.
Singh, a business major from India, earned recognition as the LSC's top female student-athlete on the links after helping the TexAnns record eight wins this season, which is the most wins by a team at any level.
Singh was joined by four others including Cameron's Renee Breeze and Marrik Wooten and West Texas A&M's Mollie Peterson and Christal Kendrick.
Breeze, a junior education major from Lawton, Okla., was a repeat selection on the All-Academic Team.
In addition to the five players on the All-Academic Team, three more gained recognition on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.20 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
