Football: Abilene Christian claims first LSC title since 1973

ACU head coach Chris Thomsen

No. 2 Abilene Christian claimed its first outright Lone Star Conference football title since 1973 and third overall with a victory over Midwestern State.  The Wildcats also won the South Division title, while remaining unbeaten to join the 1950 team as the only teams in ACU history to finish a regular season 10-0.
Central Oklahoma won its sixth North Division title in school history by virtue of a perfect 5-0 record in divisional play.  It was the seventh straight win for the Bronchos after starting 0-4.

ACU, WTAMU chosen for NCAA Division II Football Playoffs
The Wildcats are the No. 1 seed in Super Region Four and have a first-round bye.  ACU will host a second-round game on Saturday, November 22.
West Texas A&M (10-1) is the fourth seed and will host No. 5 seed Central Washington (10-1) this Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.  The winner of the game advances to the second round to play against top seed ACU in Abilene, Texas.
The meeting between WTAMU and CWU will be the first-ever football showdown between the two schools.  But they have faced two common opponents this season -- Mesa State (Colo.) and Azusa Pacific (Calif.). The Buffaloes edged out Mesa on the road in the season opener, 23-20, and routed Azusa Pacific 75-14 at home, while Central defeated Mesa 48-14 at home and 36-6 at Azusa Pacific.   WTAMU's only loss this year was at home to ACU, 35-52, while Central fell, 35-38, in the last-second at Division I-Football Championship Subdivision member Montana on Sept. 27.
The rest of the region includes No. 3 Pittsburg State hosting No. 6 Nebraska-Omaha in the first round with the victor playing at No. 2 seed Northwest Missouri State in the second round.
