Basketball: LSC Championship field set
The field is set for the Lone Star Conference Championship March
4-8 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The top four teams from each
division have advanced to the postseason beginning with women's
first-round games on Wednesday, March 4, followed by the men's
quarterfinals on Thursday, March 5.
All the championship games will be
aired live via internet video streaming at
www.lonestarconference.tv. The webcasts are available free of
charge. Each webcast includes both video and audio, with
viewers needing only a computer with a high-speed DSL or cable
modem connection to the internet. Veteran broadcaster Chris
Needham has the call for all the games.
Players of the Week
LSC North Women's
Britney Jordan, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Sr., Guard,
Peoria, Texas/Peoria Woodruff Senior
guard Britney Jordan scored 72 points last week and became the LSC
single-season points leader after surpassing Teresa Jones-Benson's
836 set in 1997-98. Jordan scored 42 at Northeastern State on
Saturday, which pushed her total to 837 for the season. She opened
the week with 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists against
Central Oklahoma. The senior guard wrapped up the regular season
averaging 31.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game.
LSC South Women's
Audrey Maxwell-Lively, Abilene Christian University, Sr., Center,
Abilene, Texas/Abilene HS
Maxwell-Lively recorded her 12th double-double of the
season and 36th of her career Saturday in the Wildcats' 64-55 upset
win over 14th-ranked West Texas A&M. ... Maxwell-Lively scored
16 points and had 10 rebounds in the win over the Lady Buffs,
hitting 5 of 8 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
... The win over the Lady Buffs clinched second place in the LSC
South Division for the Wildcats. ... In ACU's 85-70 road win at
Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday, Maxwell-Lively had 18 points and
13 rebounds against the Zias. ... Maxwell-Lively is just the sixth
player in ACU women's basketball history to record at least 1,400
points and 900 rebounds in a career.
LSC North Men's
Cardell Hunter, Texas A&M University-Commerce, Jr., Guard,
Dallas, Texas/UT-Arlington/Carter HS
Scored a team-high 20 points in the 96-79 win over No. 7 Central
Oklahoma (Feb. 25). He also had four assists and six steals in 36
minutes of action in the win over the nationally ranked Bronchos.
He followed that up with a 16-point, six rebound and four assist
effort against Northeastern State in a 71-68 loss to the
RiverHawks.
LSC South Men's
Nolan Richardson, Midwestern State University, Sr., Guard, Tulsa,
Okla./Central HS
Richardson was unstoppable while leading Midwestern State
to a 90-77 win at No. 23 Angelo State Wednesday when he erupted for
a career-high 35 points including six 3-pointers and was a perfect
13-for-13 from the line in the win. The senior from Tulsa scored 13
points to help the Mustangs to their first outright LSC South
Division title since 2000 as MSU rolled to an 80-58 win over Texas
A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Richardson finishes the regular season as the LSC's scoring champ
at 20.7 points per game. He poured in 24 points a game and hit 39.4
percent from the field including an 8-of-15 (53.3 percent)
performance from the 3-point line last week to lead MSU to a No. 1
seed. Richardson also hit 14 of his 15 free throws and added four
steals.
