LSC women's championship teams give back to Bartlesville community
Six Lone Star Conference women's basketball teams spent time with Bartlesville special education children at a bowling party on Friday morning as part of the LSC Basketball Championship.
"I thought the event was another example of how the Bartlesville community has made an effort to partner with the LSC and the Red Apple generously provided the facility for free," commented LSC Commissioner Stan Wagnon. "I'm proud of the student-athletes for showing up and being involved. I couldn't have asked for it to turn out any better. With a three-year agreement it's important to interact with the community. I'm really pleased this event turned out to be a first-class experience just like everything else has."
Student-athletes and coaches from Abilene Christian, Central Oklahoma, Angelo State, Northeastern State, Southeastern Oklahoma and West Texas A&M participated in the community initiative Friday morning at the Red Apple.
The goal was to make a positive impact on special education children in the Bartlesville community and to help the students have a memorable experience filled with plenty of smiles, encouragement, laughter and "high fives."
"I thought it was great to get involved with the Bartlesville community," said West Texas A&M graduate assistant coach Courtney Nowlin, who attended the event. "Bowling allowed us to get out there and interact with the kids. I heard wonderful stories and saw smiles on everyone's faces. It was a great event."
