Basketball: Four players earn weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Basketball Players of the Week for their efforts last week, league officials announced today.
LSC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Women's
Destiny Brown, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
So., Forward, Stillwater, Okla./Stillwater HS
Brown averaged a double double last week to help Southeastern
Oklahoma State to a 1-1 record and a win over North Division leader
Northeastern State. For the week she averaged 10.5 points and
16.0 rebounds, as well as 3.5 assist and 1.5 steals. In the
win over NSU she turned in a 17 point, 17 rebound performance while
also grabbing the steal that lead to the game-winning basket.
She also had a 15 rebound effort against East Central and currently
leads the league in rebounding.
LSC South Women's
Audrey Maxwell, Abilene Christian University
Jr., Center, Abilene, Texas/Abilene High School
Maxwell led the Wildcats to their first win over nationally ranked
West Texas A&M since 2003 with a 26-point, 18-rebound effort
last Thursday in a 71-66 overtime ACU win. ... Maxwell had 13
points and seven rebounds in Saturday's 64-62 win over Texas
Woman's that moved ACU into second place in the LSC South Division
at 6-2. ... Maxwell's double-double against West Texas A&M was
her eighth such game of the season and 20th of her career. ... The
last time the Wildcats beat West Texas A&M (Feb. 20, 2003, in
Canyon), Maxwell was a sophomore at Abilene High School.
LSC North Men's
Sam Belt, University of Central Oklahoma
Sr., Guard/Forward, Broken Arrrow, Okla./Broken Arrow
Senior star had another great week in leading streaking UCO to a
pair of LSC North wins. Belt averaged 29.6 points, 6.5
rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting a sizzling 62.5
percent from the floor (20-of-32), including an amazing 69.2
percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range. He scored a team-high
21 points and had six rebounds in an 83-72 home upset of No.
9-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma, then exploded for a season-high 38
points in a 76-60 road win over Texas A&M-Commerce, hitting
8-of-11 3-pointers in that contest. Belt moved into third
place on UCO's all-time scoring list with 1,691 points.
LSC South Men's
Jeremy Ford, Midwestern State University
Sr., Guard, Wagoner, Okla./Wagoner HS
Ford scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half to
lead Midwestern State to a 79-65 upset win over No. 12 Tarleton
State Saturday night in Stephenville. The senior guard from
Wagoner, Okla. accounted for nine points in a crucial 11-3 run
after Tarleton State had cut MSU's 10-point halftime advantage to
38-35 with 16:25 to go. Ford converted a four-point play to ignite
the run and hit a baseline runner before nailing another triple as
the Mustangs regained a commanding 54-42 lead with 13:03 to go. The
Texans would get no closer than seven the rest of the way. Ford was
5-of-7 from the field in the second half including a perfect
4-for-4 effort from the 3-point arc.
