Men's Hoops: Southeastern to play for regional title
Southeastern Oklahoma beat Midwestern State, 88-77, in overtime in a semifinal game at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
The eight-team regional, being played in Warrensburg, Mo., on the University of Central Missouri campus, concludes Tuesday with the Lone Star Conference North Division champion Savage Storm facing Central Missouri in the championship game. The regional winner advances to the NCAA Division II Men's Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass.
Here's a closer look at Sunday's regional semifinal contest:
SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA 88, MIDWESTERN STATE 77 (OT)
Eric Babers poured in a career-high 33 points, with 16 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks to propel SOSU to a come-from-behind overtime win over MSU, 88-77.
The Savage Storm trailed by nine at halftime but turned the tables on the Mustangs in the second half and overtime period.
SOSU trimmed the MSU lead to 10 points before an 8-0 run cut the margin to two points with 8:27 to go. Three minutes later, Jason Stampley hit a three-pointer to give the Savage Storm its first lead since the opening minute of the game.
MSU charged back and sent the game to overtime (74-74) when Chad Rickett nailed a 28-footer at the buzzer.
In overtime, MSU made just 1-of-7 field goals, while SOSU hit 3-of-6 shots and 8-of-9 free throws to seal the victory.
