Baseball: Two pick up weekly awards
Two players earned Lone Star Conference Diamond Baseball Player of the Week honors for their efforts last week, the league office announced today.
LSC Baseball Championship field set
The top six Lone Star Conference baseball squads will meet in
Abilene, Texas, next weekend for the annual LSC Baseball
Championship.
The tournament features six teams
for the fourth straight year. The double-elimination event
starts on Saturday and concludes on Tuesday.
LSC champion Cameron is the top
seed, while Angelo State is the No. 2 seed. Abilene Christian
is seeded third, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma at No. 4,
Eastern New Mexico at No. 5 and Tarleton State at No. 6.
All games will take place at
Crutcher Scott Field on the campus of Abilene Christian
University. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking
here. Fans interested in pre-ordering an all-session
tournament pass can order those online for $20, or they can order
single-day tickets for $10 apiece.
Diamond Players of the Week
LSC Hitter
Trey Carter, Angelo State, Sr., Catcher, Sherman,
Texas/Sherman
Carter led the Rams in home runs, RBI and slugging
percentage as ASU locked up the No. 2-seed in this weekend's LSC
Championship Tournament. The Sherman native began the weekend
series at TAMUK by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI.
Game two on Friday saw Carter go 3-for-6 with one run scored and
three RBI. In the first game on Saturday, Carter was hitless but
started the Rams' rally which gave them the lead for good. The
series finale saw Carter go 3-for-6 with two runs scored and four
RBI. For the weekend, Carter was 8-for-12 with one double, three
home runs, six runs scored, 12 RBI, a .550 on-base percentage and a
1.059 slugging percentage.
LSC Pitcher
Preston Vancil, Abilene Christian, Sr., Pitcher, Sacramento,
Calif./West Campus
Vancil was dominant last Friday in ACU's 7-1 win over
Tarleton State. The senior righthander struck out a
career-high 13 Texans and put together his fourth complete-game
effort of the season in the Wildcats' victory. Vancil only
allowed four baserunners to advance even to second base in the game
as he shut down the Tarleton State offense.
