Baseball: Trio tabbed for weekly honors
Eastern New Mexico's Tyler Hayes, Abilene Christian's Mike Elkerson and Texas A&M-Kingsville's Josh Livingston earned Lone Star Conference Baseball Players of the Week honors for their performances last week, the league office announced today.

Tyler Hayes, Eastern New Mexico University
Sr., Second Base, Houston, Texas/Aliet F. Hastings High School
Hayes led the Greyhounds in their series against Central
Oklahoma in hitting (.600), hits (9), triples (2), RBIs (8),
slugging percentage (.933), and tied for the lead with one
sacrifice fly. He posted a perfect fielding percentage at second
base in 24 defensive opportunities, including several in which he
ranged to field balls that should have reached the outfield. He
batted 2-for-4 with a triple, walk and three RBIs in the series
opener against one of the nation's premier undefeated pitchers,
Clint Straka. Hayes recorded multiple hits and multiple RBIs in all
but one game over the weekend, including a 4-for-six performance
with a double, two runs and two RBI in the home finale as ENMU
posted a 17-12 victory. Over the series, he batted 5-for-9 with
runners in scoring position and 2-for-3 when leading off an inning.
Mike Elkerson, Abilene Christian
University
Sr., Outfield, San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente High School
Elkerson had a big weekend as he led the Wildcats to the
LSC regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in next month's
LSC Post-Season Tournament. Elkerson hit .500 (10 for 20) on the
weekend with two home runs and eight RBI. On Friday he became ACU's
single-season leader in total bases, and in Saturday's doubleheader
he became ACU's single-season leader in home runs and RBI. Elkerson
has a league-best 19 home runs and 77 RBI, both of which are ACU
single-season records. He also has an ACU single-season record 174
total bases. He has a league-best 93 hits, which is four short of
setting of a new ACU single-season record.
LSC Pitcher of the Week
Josh Livingston, Texas A&M
University-Kingsville
Sr., RHP, Corpus Christi, Texas/Moody
Livingston held Southeastern Oklahoma, one of the top
hitting teams in the LSC to just seven hits and without an earned
run in Friday's 2-1 victory.The victory gave Livingston 21 career
wins, tying former teammate Raul Trevino for second in career
victories. Livingston, in his final start at home, struck out five
and walked none to improve to 5-3 on the season. Southeastern came
into the game having won 10 of its last 12, which included a win
over #1 ranked Southern Arkansas. The Savage Storm also came into
the game hitting .360 as a team with 66 home runs, but Livingston
shut them down.
