Schupp, Gonzalez earn weekly honors
West Texas A&M's Brian Schupp and Texas A&M-Kingsville's Mario Gonzalez were named Lone Star Conference Baseball Players of the Week for their performances last week, the league office announced today.

Schupp hit five home runs in West Texas A&M's opening weekend
at Sul Ross State, helping the Buffs to a 1-2 record including a
13-4 rout of the Lobos in the nightcap on Saturday. He hit 2-for-4
with no walks and no strikeouts in Friday's 8-6 loss - both hits
were solo HRs. In Saturday's 3-2 loss, Schupp was 1-for-4 with one
RBI but he exploded for three home runs in the 13-4 win in the
second game, during which he hit 6-for-6 with five runs, seven RBI,
no walks and no strikeouts in the victory.

Gonzalez came into the game with UT Brownsville with the score tied
at 1-1 and pitched five innings of 2-hit, 8-strikeout, no walk
relief to earn the win in the Javelinas' 5-1 victory. In two
games last week the Javelinas bullpen allowed only 2 runs and 4
hits while striking out 17 in 10 innings.
