Rams win Baseball regional, advance to first-ever Division II World Series

Angelo State advanced to the NCAA Division II Baseball World Series for the first time with a 3-2 triumph over Montevallo in the "if necessary" championship game of the South Central Regional tournament Monday afternoon.

The Rams opened the regional with two straight wins before falling to Montevallo, 5-4, in Game 7. ASU responded by reeling off three consecutive victories to claim the regional title in just the third year of the program.

ASU now advances to the eight-team NCAA Division II Baseball World series, set to begin Friday, May 25, in Montgomery, Ala. The Rams first game is Saturday, May 26, against Franklin Pierce at 1 p.m.

This will be the fourth World Series appearance since 1997 for Lone Star Conference teams, with Central Oklahoma finishing as national runner-up in 1997, Southeastern Oklahoma winning the national title in 2000 and Abilene Christian making the field in 2003.
