ASU selected for NCAA Baseball regional
For the first time ever, Angelo State will participate in the NCAA Division II South Central Region baseball tournament, which begins Thursday in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Lone Star Conference champion Rams are the No. 6 seed in the six-team event May 17-20 hosted by Ouachita Baptist University at Rab Rodgers Field.
The Rams were the only LSC team selected and are slated to play host and top-seed OBU, champions of the Gulf South Conference, in the first round on Thursday.
Rounding out the field are Delta State, Montevallo and West Florida from the GSC, and Heartland Conference champion St. Edward's.
The eight Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 25 to June 1 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama, which will be hosted by Valdosta State University and the city of Montgomery.
In the 2006 championship, Tampa claimed its fourth championship title by defeating the Cal State Chico, 3-2.
This year marks the 40th annual championship, and the 23rd consecutive year that the finals will be held in Montgomery, Alabama.
