WT, TSU top men’s and women’s cross country preseason polls

West Texas A&M and Tarleton State are the top choices to claim the 2018 Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s cross country championships according to the league’s preseason poll announced on Tuesday.

        The Buffaloes were the favorite earning 15 first-place votes for a total of 207 points in the men’s poll.  Tarleton received nine top votes for 201 points to rank a close second followed by UT Permian Basin in third (139), Texas A&M-Commerce fourth (134), and Texas A&M-Kingsville fifth (99).

        The TexAnns were the top choice on 15 ballots for 248 points on the women’s side.  WT was second with seven first-place votes for 231 points, while Midwestern State was third with the four remaining top votes and 212 points.  A&M-C was fourth (149), Angelo State fifth (137), and Eastern New Mexico sixth (134).

        In 2017, WT won the men's championship for the fifth straight year, while Tarleton won its second title on the women's side.

        The league’s nine men’s and 10 women’s teams start their season in September, while the postseason begins with the LSC Championships hosted by West Texas A&M on November 3.
