LSC Outdoor Track and Field awards proclaimed

A total of 115 athletes were recognized on the All-Lone Star Conference teams for their efforts at the 2018 LSC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The awards were announced Thursday by league officials.

Angelo State swept the men’s and women’s titles with the Rams winning their 12th title and the Rambelles claiming their 10th crown at the league’s outdoor meet May 3-4-5.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships.  The second team includes athletes scoring 8-13.9 points, and the third team those scoring 6-7.9 points.  Overall, 58 men and 57 women were recognized.

On the men’s side, Texas A&M-Commerce had 14 earn All-LSC honors with six first-team performers, while ASU had 13, West Texas A&M 12, and Texas A&M-Kingsville 11.

ASU led the women’s honorees with 15 including eight first-teamers, while A&M-C and WT were second with 11 recipients each.

In addition to the announcement of All-LSC performers, the league recognized four student-athletes and two coaches with individual awards.

On the men’s side, Eastern New Mexico’s Marcus Parker earned the Cap Shelton Award as Outstanding Male Track Athlete for the second straight year, while TAMUK’s Richard Cervantes picked up the Oscar Strahan Award as Outstanding Male Field Athlete.  ASU’s Tom Dibbern was named Men’s Coach of the Year for the second time.

ASU swept the women’s special awards.  Kelsey Warren received the Wes Kittley Award as Outstanding Female Track Athlete, Kami Norton repeated as the David Noble Award as Outstanding Female Field Athlete, and Dibbern was tabbed Coach of the Year.

The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.

The qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be announced May 15 via NCAA.com press release.  The championships are May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
