LSC Indoor Track and Field awards announced

A total of 94 athletes were recognized on the All-Lone Star Conference teams for their efforts at the 2018 LSC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.

West Texas A&M won its fifth straight women’s title and Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the men’s crown for the fourth consecutive year at the league’s indoor meet February 24-25.

The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships.  The second team includes athletes scoring 8-13.9 points, and the third team those scoring 6-7.9 points.  Overall, 51 men and 43 women were recognized.

WT had 11 women’s honorees including six first-teamers, while Angelo State also had 11 recipients.

On the men’s side, A&M-C had 14 earn All-LSC honors with eight first-team performers, while WT had 15.

In addition to the announcement of All-LSC performers, the league recognized four student-athletes and two coaches with individual awards.

On the men’s side, Eastern New Mexico’s Marcus Parker earned Outstanding Male Track Athlete acclaim, while Texas A&M-Commerce’s Florian Obst was named Outstanding Male Field Athlete.  The Lions George Pincock earned Men’s Track Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year.

ASU’s Kami Norton and Kaitlin Lumpkins took home Outstanding Female Track Athlete and Outstanding Female Field Athlete honors, respectively.  The Lady Buffs Matt Stewart was named Women’s Track Coach of the Year.

The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.
