LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships: WT, A&M-C claim titles again

West Texas A&M claimed its fifth straight women’s crown and Texas A&M-Commerce won the men’s title for the fourth consecutive year at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Lubbock, Texas.

      WT took the women’s title with 181 points.  Angelo State finished second with 151 points in front of A&M-C (132) in third place.

      The Lady Buffs prevailed in five events on Sunday.  Fatim Affessi claimed her second title of the event in the triple jump with a LSC best-ever and championships record of 43-3.75 (13.20m).  Also, Nikolina Hrelec won the mile, Nele Heinrich finished first in the 400-meters, Kennedy Hudson claimed the 60-meters title and Valda Kabia won the 200-meters.

      ASU’s Kami Norton picked her second individual title in the 60-meter hurdles, while Kaitlin Lumpkins triumphed in the high jump with a LSC best and championships mark of 5-11.25 (1.81m), and Daisy Osakue finished first in the shot put with a championship record (50-1.75, 15.28m).

      The Lions Minna Sveard claimed the pole vault title with a championship record jump (12-4, 3.76m), and the 1,600-meter relay of Ro'Nisha Simpson, Joy Spann, Minna Sveard, and Kamryn McKee took home gold for the second straight year.

      Lubbock Christian’s Amira Cunningham topped the field in the 3000-meters to earn her second title, while Eastern New Mexico Mason Swanson won the 800-meters.

      On the men’s side, A&M-C finished with 186 points to top WT (168) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (104), who finished second and third, respectively.

      The Lions took home three individual titles and the 1,600-meter relay on Sunday.  Rashard Clark won the 400-meters in a LSC best and championships record of 46.43, while Florian Obst claimed the heptathlon title for the second straight year with a record-setting 5,468 points.  DeVontae Steele finished first in the triple jump (52-7.25, 16.03m) setting a championship record.  Jude Christine, Dedrian Windham, D'Lance Sharp, and Rashard Clark combined to prevail with a championship record 3:11.32 in the relay.

      WT took home two titles with Ricky Harvie crossing the finish line first in the mile in 4:08.92, which set the championship mark, and Geoffrey Kipchumba prevailing in the 3000-meters.

      The Javelinas won three events including the third consecutive 60-meter hurdles title for Javier Lopez.  Richard Cervantes prevailed in the shot put (60-2, 18.34m), and Robert Downs was first in the 800-meters (1:50.93) with championship record efforts.

      ENMU’s Marcus Parker was a double-winner with gold medals in the 60-meters, with a LSC best 6.67 mark, and 200-meters, which he won for the second straight year.
