LSC Indoor Track & Field All-Academic team announced

Angelo State’s Kami Norton and Chevy Robertson were named the Lone Star Conference Academic Athletes of the Year on Friday when league officials announced the LSC's annual academic awards for men's and women's indoor track and field.

Norton, who claimed top honors for the second straight year, led the 11 standouts on the LSC Women’s All-Academic team, while Robertson headlined a group of 11 on the LSC Men’s All-Academic team.

A senior kinesiology major from Albany, Texas, Norton is the Division II leader in the pentathlon with a score of 3,999. She is also ranked nationally in the long jump (6th), 60-meter hurdles (9th) and high jump (14th). Norton has seasonal bests of 8.59 in the 60-meter hurdles, 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump and 19-7 (5.97m) in the long jump this season.  This is her third academic honor as she earned the 2017 LSC Indoor and Outdoor awards as well.

Robertson, a sophomore physics major from Brownwood, Texas, has ran on the 4x400-meter relay twice and the distance medley relay once this season. He helped a relay run a time of 3:23.92 and the DMR to a time of 10:59.01. Robertson has competed in the 400-meters with a season best time altitude converted time of 50.19.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Athlete of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

On the women's team with Norton was fellow Rambelle Kelby Pope; Eastern New Mexico’s Coley Norcross and Danee Bustos; Lubbock Christian’s Journee Cotton and Kaitlin Bell; Tarleton State’s Gretzel Jimenez; Midwestern State’s Mercy Yermo; West Texas A&M’s Nele Heinrich; and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Sarah Hogan and Maddie Shubert.

Joining Robertson on the men's all-academic team were teammates Jacob Reid and Harry Maslen; WT’s Owen Hind; ENMU’s Ezra Bagwell and Lorenzo Juarez; A&M-C’s Florian Obst, Trevor Montgomery, and Dylan Henderson; LCU’s Jacob Nava; and TSU’s Jarred Elizondo.

Overall, 22 men and women were selected to the All-Academic teams including five repeat selections (Norton, Cotton, Bagwell, Reid, and Maslen).
