LSC VOLLEYBALL
The Lone Star Conference volleyball season is underway with all 11 teams taking part in tournament play on the opening weekend. Angelo State, Tarleton State and West Texas A&M are each 4-0 after one week.
LSC volleyball teams are 22-22 overall this season. The squads are currently 8-10 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 1-2 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Hailey Roberts, Tarleton State University, SR, Cedar Park, Texas, Cedar Park HS
Roberts was phenomenal in the opening weekend of her senior season as the Cedar Park native led the TexAnns to four consecutive sweeps at the 2017 TexAnn Invitational, including straight-set wins over No. 23 Rockhurst and No. 18 Central Oklahoma. Roberts boasted a double-double performance in each of the two AVCA Top-25 matches with 17 kills and 12 digs against Rockhurst and 12 kills and 11 digs against Central Oklahoma. For the weekend, Roberts landed 53 kills, which is tops in the Lone Star Conference, and scored 63.0 points. She also dished out three assists and landed five service aces on a .930 serving percentage. The senior also shined on the defensive end with 37 digs in 12 sets and seven blocks. She was named the Co-MVP of the 2017 TexAnn Invitational.
DEFENSIVE
Crystal Thomas, West Texas A&M University, SR, San Antonio, Texas, Roosevelt
Thomas had a monster weekend for the Lady Buffs as the senior led WT to wins over Southwestern Oklahoma, Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and St. Mary's during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. The San Antonio native averaged 1.62 blocks per set with 21 total blocks to help hold opponents to a .123 hitting percentage. Thomas posted a double-double with a league-high 10 blocks against Adams State in a four-set victory to go along with 11 kills while hitting .346. She recorded 26 kills on 58 swings with seven attack errors to hit .328 on the weekend to go along with five service aces and eight digs.
SETTER
Selena Batiste, West Texas A&M University, SO, Portland, Oregon, Central Catholic
Batiste had a breakout weekend during the BritKare Lady Buff Classic as the sophomore guided the Lady Buffs to wins over Southwestern Oklahoma, Colorado State-Pueblo, Adams State and St. Mary’s with a .311 team hitting percentage. The Portland native was named the MVP of the BritKare Lady Buff Classic as she dished out a tournament-high 150 assists to average 11.54 per set to go along with eight kills, seven service aces and 26 digs. Batiste registered 64 assists on Day 1 in wins over SWOSU and CSUP before a 50 assist performance against Adams State in WT's only non-sweep victory of the weekend before 36 assists in the tournament finale against St. Mary's.
