LSC Indoor Track & Field: WT, A&M-C take home titles again

West Texas A&M won its fourth consecutive women’s title and Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the men’s crown for the third straight year at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held in Alamosa, Colo.

      WT took the women’s title with 159.50 points.  Angelo State finished second with 146.5 points in front of A&M-C (120.50) in third place.

      The Lady Buffs prevailed in four events on Sunday.  Rellie Kaputin claimed second and third titles of the event with wins in the high jump and triple jump, Norma Cunigan won the shot put for the second straight year, and Victoria Rausch finished first in the 60-meter hurdles.

      Angelo State’s Jasmine Sillemon won the 200-meter dash.  The Lions 1,600-meter relay of Kamryn McKee, Verlencia Shaw, Ana Baleveicauand Ashley Bassett took home gold.

      Eastern New Mexico Melina Gryschka prevailed in a pair of events – the mile and 3000-meters, while the Greyhounds Klaudia Szych won the 800-meters.

      Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Kaina Martinez captured back-to-back gold medals in the 400-meters, while the Javelinas Deana Richardson took home the 60-meters title with a LSC best-ever and meet record effort.

      On the men’s side, A&M-C finished with 210 points to top TAMUK (113.50) and ASU (107.50), who finished second and third, respectively.

      The Lions claimed three individual titles and the 1,600-meter relay on Sunday.  Luis Romero led the top performances with gold in the mile and 800-meters, while Florian Obst claimed the heptathlon title.  Llewellyn Woodburn, Aaron Lecesne, Josiah Dennis and Dedrian Windham combined to triumph in the relay.

      The Javelinas won three events including the second straight 60-meter hurdles title for Javier Lopez.  Christian Garcia prevailed in the shot put, while Charles Greaves added his second gold medal of the championships in the triple jump.

      WT took home two titles with Todd Handley crossing the finish line first in the 60-meters and Owen Hind prevailing in the 3000-meters.

      ASU’s Isaac Marquez finished first in the 400-meters, while ENMU’s Marcus Parker won the 200-meters.

      Altogether, champions were crowned in 23 events.  Here’s the complete list of event winners from Sunday’s competition:
