Cross Country: All-Academic teams announced

West Texas A&M’s Owen Hind and Midwestern State’s Stefanie Blaine claimed top honors Thursday as Lone Star Conference officials announced the league's cross country all-academic awards.

Hind was named the LSC Men's Academic Runner of the Year, while Blaine took home LSC Women's Academic Runner of the Year acclaim.  Both were voted to the LSC All-Academic team, which recognized 11 runners -- five men and six women -- for both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.  The All-Academic teams are voted upon by the league's sports information directors.

Hind was joined on the men’s All-Academic team by Angelo State’s Reese Montgomery, Eastern New Mexico’s Lorenzo Juarez, Western New Mexico’s Xavier Perez, and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Trevor Montgomery.  Reese Montgomery, Juarez, and Trevor Montgomery were recognized for the second straight year.

Blaine led the women’s squad that included Mustangs teammate Sara Smith, WT’s Nikolina Hrelec, ENMU’s Anna Parker, Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Mariah Noyola, and A&M-C’s Maddie Shubert.  Blaine and Smith were honored for the second consecutive year.

All the runners will compete in the LSC Cross Country Championships Saturday, October 21 in Kingsville, Texas.
