Division II Championships Festival underway

The Lone Star Conference will be represented by four teams at the 2016 Division II National Championships Festival hosted by MSU-Denver and the Denver Sports Commission, May 16-21, 2016.

West Texas A&M’s softball and women’s golf teams are set to compete along with Tarleton State (women’s golf) and Cameron (women’s tennis).

The four LSC teams will be among 76 qualifying teams and 20 qualifying individuals representing their institutions by competing for national championships in men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis.  It is the ninth occurrence of the distinctive Division II event.

The event begins with an opening ceremony at Mile High Stadium on May 16.

WT ended its 2016 season with a 7-4 loss to Southern Arkansas at the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.  The Lady Buffs opened the championship by defeating Grand Valley State 4-0, before falling 8-5 to Humboldt State.

CU's season ended with a 5-1 loss to Hawaii Pacific in the quarterfinals.  The Aggies opened the championship with a 5-2 win over California (PA) to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

Tarleton moved up one spot to sixth through two rounds of the women's golf championship at CommonGround Golf Course.  The TexAnns shot a 300 (+12) on day two and are at 601 (+25) overall. WT remained in 11th with a round two total of 311 and is at 620 (+44) overall.  Rollins College leads the field with a 578 (+2).

The TexAnns and Lady Buffs continue the 72-hole championship on May 20.
