LSC announces Track & Field awards

Texas A&M-Kingsville topped the All-Lone Star Conference awards with 14 honorees out of the 51 athletes recognized for their efforts at the 2016 LSC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  The awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.

The Javelinas claimed the men’s title for the fourth time with eight all-LSC performers, while West Texas A&M won the women’s crown for the first time behind the efforts of six all-conference athletes.

The list of all-conference performers includes the winner of each event at the conference meet, including all members of the winning relay teams, plus any athlete who scores at least 14 points at the meet. The all-conference program recognized 27 women and 24 men altogether.

In addition to the announcement of All-LSC performers, the league recognized four student-athletes and two coaches with individual awards.

On the men’s side, Angelo State’s Luis Perez earned the Cap Shelton Award as Outstanding Male Track Athlete for the second straight year, while TAMUK’s Lutalo Boyce picked up the Oscar Strahan Award as Outstanding Male Field Athlete.  The Javelinas Ryan Dall was named Men’s Coach of the Year for the fourth time.

WT swept the women’s awards as Libby Strickland received the Wes Kittley Award as Outstanding Female Track Athlete for the second time, Rellie Kaputin captured the David Noble Award as Outstanding Female Field Athlete, and Darren Flowers was tabbed Coach of the Year.

The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.

Several of the LSC track and field athletes are now preparing for the conclusion of the 2016 outdoor season with the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 26-28 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
