Softball: Golden Glove Awards announced

The top defensive players were recognized Thursday as winners of the Lone Star Conference Softball Golden Glove Awards were announced at the championship banquet.

For the fifth time, the Golden Glove Awards were determined by a vote of LSC head coaches based on defensive performance alone for all nine positions.

LSC Champion West Texas A&M and Texas Woman’s had the most Golden Glovers with three each, while Texas A&M-Commerce had two.  Cameron, Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville each had one defensive standout.

The recipients included CU catcher Chelsea DeLong and WT pitcher Kilee Halbert.  The infield included A&M-C’s Luci Ponce at first base, WT’s Brittany Gehle and ENMU’s Audrey Velasquez at second, TWU’s Nicole Nordie at shortstop, and WT’s Shea Ibrahim and TAMUK’s Rachael Longoria at third base.

The outfield was anchored by TWU’s Tealey Farquhar in center field, along with the Pioneers Laura Mabary in left, and Lions Megan Lynch in right.

      DeLong was a repeat selection.
