Women’s Soccer: ASU’s Tsambasis tops academic awards

Angelo State’s Demi Tsambasis was tabbed the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year as conference officials announced the women’s soccer academic awards during the LSC Championship banquet on Wednesday.

Tsambasis, a communication major, has started all 18 games for the Rambelles.  The senior forward ranks second in the league in goals (13) and points (29).

The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible), completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.

Joining Tsambasis on the 11-member team was teammate Kathleen Keoughan.  Texas A&M-Commerce was represented by Savannah Grasser, Caitlin Duty, and Vicky Back, while Texas Woman's added Rachel Peters, Gaby Larson, Chelsea Martin, and Presley Bailey.  Midwestern State’s Courtney Burnette and West Texas A&M’s Courtney Dippel completed the team.

Grasser and Larson were named to the team for the third time while Burnette and Keoughan were repeat selections.
