Angelo State’s David Goggin topped the Lone Star Conference Baseball All-Academic Team, as the league’s annual postseason awards were announced prior to the start of this week’s LSC Baseball Championship.
Goggin was tabbed Academic Player of the Year to headline the All-Academic team. A junior outfielder/catcher from Red Wing, Minn., missed the first half of this season with an injury, but has returned to start 27 games in the outfield and has two home runs, two doubles, a triple and 11 RBI.
Goggin was joined by Ram teammates Blake Bass and Dillon Becker; West Texas A&M’s Justin Hargrove and Paul Lujan; Tarleton State’s Dalton Weeks and Eythan Lenz; and Eastern New Mexico’s Cody Pope and Sean Gahan.
Goggin was recognized for the second straight year.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
