Softball: Postseason awards announced

The Lone Star Conference recognized its softball standouts Thursday as the postseason awards were announce by league officials at the championship banquet.

      LSC champion West Texas A&M had nine players receive All-LSC honors including a league-best six first-teamers.

      WT, which won the conference title for the third time with a 22-6 record, was represented on the All-LSC first team by Renee Erwin, Rita Hokianga, Lacey Taylor, Stacey Ramirez, Kaisha Dacosin, and Allie Smith.

      The Lady Buffs claimed a few special awards as well.  Erwin was named Player of the Year, and Smith claimed Freshman of the Year honors.

      Angelo State’s Brandy Marlett was tabbed Pitcher of the Year, while Cameron’s Lauren Renneker took home Newcomer of the Year acclaim.

      Texas Woman’s Genny Stidham earned Coach of the Year distinction.

      CU had nine players named to the all-conference team.  TWU had six recognized, while ASU and Tarleton State had five each, Texas A&M-Commerce four, and Midwestern State three.  Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville had one apiece.

      Overall, 43 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with a player from all nine LSC teams.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined an 18-player first team by position, along with second and third teams, consisting of 12 and 13 players, respectively, regardless of positions.
