LSC Indoor Track & Field: WT, A&M-C take home titles

West Texas A&M won its second straight women’s title and Texas A&M-Commerce claimed the men’s crown at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Athletic Training Center in Lubbock, Texas.

      WT took the women’s title with 209.5 points.  Angelo State finished second with 159 points in front of Texas A&M-Kingsville (102) in third place.

      The Lady Buffs prevailed in three events on Sunday.  Libby Strickland won the high jump, Malika Ouedraogo claimed the triple jump, and Holly Cunigan had a record breaking performance in the shot put.

      ASU’s Jordan Gray had the most points on women’s side with 36.50 including scoring in the 200m, 55m Hurdles, long jump, 4x400 relay and the pentathlon.

      On the men’s side, A&M-C finished with 245 points to top WT (207) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (124), who finished second and third, respectively.

      The Lions claimed six individual titles on Sunday.  Matt Rich led the A&M-C effort with a meet-best 26 points including his second straight heptathlon title with 5,249 points which broke the LSC best-ever and championship records.

      Dexter Lee (400m), Devontae Steele (triple jump), and the 4x400 relay squad of Lee, John David Rollins, Ravi Dubose, and Soren Gnoss not only earned gold but set the LSC and championship marks for the Lions.  Additionally, Tyler Rambo won the shot put and Luis Romero repeated in the mile.

      Altogether, champions were crowned in 23 events with five LSC best-ever and 11 LSC championship records set.  Here’s the complete list of award winners from Sunday’s competition:
