Softball: Five LSC teams selected for regional

Five Lone Star Conference softball teams were selected to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

      LSC Championship West Texas A&M and LSC Tournament Champion Angelo State are the top two seeds and will each host one of the four-team South Central Regional double-elimination tournaments.

      Joining WT in Canyon, Texas, are Texas Woman’s, Midwestern State, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Champion Metro State.

     The top ranked Lady Buffs will be making the program's fourth NCAA postseason appearance and face MSU on Friday at 6:30 p.m. 

     The Mustangs earned their ninth bid into the NCAA Division II postseason field and are making their fourth postseason appearance in the last five seasons claiming South Central Region titles in 2010 and 2011 while advancing to the national semifinals in 2011.

      TWU was rewarded with its sixth national tournament berth in school history and fourth in the last five years.  The Pioneers open the regional versus Metro State Friday at 4 p.m.

      ASU is hosting Heartland Conference champion St. Mary’s, Cameron and St. Edward’s in San Angelo, Texas.

      The Rambelles, who are hosting the program's fifth NCAA Division II South Central Regional, will meet St. Edward's on Friday at 7 p.m.  ASU has earned eight straight trips to the regional and 11 overall since 2002.

      CU will make its regional debut against St. Mary’s Friday at 4:30 p.m. after being selected for regional action for the first time in school history.

      Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 9-11. Winners will advance to the super regionals May 16-17. The finals will be held May 22-26 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia and will be hosted by the Mountain East Conference and the city of Salem.
