West Texas A&M’s Baptiste Moreu and Harding’s Ewa Zaborowska were tabbed Lone Star Conference Academic Athletes of the Year on Monday when league officials announced the LSC’s annual academic awards for men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.
Moreu and Zaborowska doubled their hardware after they both claimed top academic honors in indoor track and field earlier this year.
Moreu led a group of 11 track and field stars on the LSC Men’s All-Academic Team, while Zaborowska, who repeated as the outdoor academic athlete of the year, was joined by 11 standouts on the LSC Women’s All-Academic Team.
A junior finance major from Auray, France, Moreu set a facility record in the 1000m at the WT Open with a first place time of 2:34.28. He also has a provisional time of 3:51.05 in the 1500m, which ranks in the LSC.
Zaborowska, a junior accounting major from Wejherowo, Poland, has the league’s best time in the 1500m (4:25.59) and ranks third in the 800m (2:12.25) with two provisional efforts. Additionally, she is ranked third in NCAA Division II in the 1500m.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
On the men’s all-academic team with Moreu was Tarleton State’s Peyton Best, Dylan Willett, and Tye Doty; Harding’s Stephen Hedlund, Kevin Naceanceno, and Jacob McDonald; Texas A&M-Commerce’s Dorian McCradic; Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Michal Idziak; and Angelo State’s Dylan Littlejohn and Jamin Goecker.
Littlejohn was a repeat selection.
Joining Zaborowska on the women’s side was teammate Kristen Celsor; WT’s Emma Love, Bri Leeper, and Libby Strickland; ASU’s Jordan Gray; McMurry’s Mariah Steinbock; Eastern New Mexico’s Amber Saiz and Beth Blind; Midwestern State’s Cara Mack; and TSU’s Shelby Terry.
Mack earned a spot on the all-academic team for the third consecutive year, while Zaborowska, Love, Gray, and Celsor were repeat honorees.
Overall, 22 men and women were selected to the All-Academic teams.
