Golf: Postseason honors announced

Midwestern State’s Derek Oland was named the Lone Star Conference Men’s Player of the Year, while Tarleton State’s Isabel Jimenez-Perea claimed top billing on the women’s side for the second straight year Sunday night as the league’s annual postseason golf awards were announced at the championships banquet.

League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at the banquet, held in conjunction with the LSC Championships at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Oland leads the Mustangs with a 71.00 scoring average and ranks second in NCAA Division II scoring according to Golfstat.  He won three individual tournament titles this year along with five top-4 finishes and seven top-10 showings.  The junior also obliterated the MSU school scoring record with a 10-under-par 62 at the Argonaut Invitational, which tied the Pensacola Country Club's Course record.

Jimenez-Perea leads Division II with a 73.25 average score in 16 rounds. She has won three tournament titles along with a pair of runner-up finishes among five top-5 performances.

Texas A&M–Commerce’s Hagan Wood picked up Freshman of Year honors, while the Aggies Jerry Hrnciar repeated as Coach of the Year for the men.

On the women’s side, TSU’s Beatriz Prados earned Freshman of the Year acclaim, while the TexAnns Jerry Doyle was tabbed Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

Joining Oland on the men’s first team All-LSC was A&M-C’s C.J. Clem, Cameron’s Dylan McClure, Cullen Stahl, Bradley Ferrell, and Corey Bounds, and West Texas A&M’s Ethan Peterson.

Jimenez-Perea topped the women’s first team All-LSC which also included WT’s Glory Jangthongsiri, MSU’s Brenna Moore, A&M-C’s Chantry McMahan, and CU’s Jaqueline Strickland.

Five more players were named to the second team for women, while another four men’s and three women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
