LSC Indoor Track & Field All-Academic team announced

West Texas A&M’s Baptiste Moreu and Harding’s Ewa Zaborowska were tabbed Lone Star Conference Academic Athletes of the Year on Thursday when league officials announced the LSC’s annual academic awards for men’s and women’s indoor track and field.

Moreu led a group of 12 track and field standouts on the LSC Men’s All-Academic Team, while Zaborowska was the top choice for the second straight year and joined by 13 stars on the LSC Women’s All-Academic Team.

A junior finance major from La Rochelle, France, Moreu broke a 37-year old school record in the indoor men’s mile with a time of 4:06.77 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.  The converted time (4:09.93) also set the new LSC record and ranks seventh in Division II.

Zaborowska, a junior accounting major from Wejherowo, Poland, holds the top times in the LSC in both the mile and the 3,000 meters. She ran the mile in an adjusted 4:57.55 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet, which ranks 10th in Division II.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

Joining Moreu on the men’s all-academic team were fellow Buffaloes Fabian Mueller, Martin Puga, and Armando Rueda, Harding’s Stephen Hedlund, Landon Belcher, and Jacob McDonald, Tarleton State’s Peyton Best, Dylan Willett, and Tye Doty, Eastern New Mexico’s Nicklas Waterhouse, and A&M-Commerce’s Dorian McCradic.

On the women’s team with Zaborowska were teammates Rachel Roberts and Rachael Domeyer, Midwestern State’s Cara Mack, Brittany Adams, and Ashley Flores, WT’s Emma Love, Bri Leeper, and Libby Strickland, Angelo State’s Jaylen Rodgers, McMurry’s Mariah Steinbock, ENMU’s Beth Blind, and TSU’s Shelby Terry.

Overall, 25 men and women were selected to the All-Academic teams including four repeat selections (Belcher, Zaborowska, Love and Mack).
