LSC Football Recap - Week 5

West Texas A&M 41, Tarleton State 21
No. 23 West Texas A&M broke open a 7-7 game in the second quarter for a 41-21 victory Saturday night at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium over visiting Tarleton State.  With the win, the Lone Star Conference leading Buffaloes improved to 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play.  Tarleton State fell to 2-2 on the year and 2-2 in league play. 

Buffalo quarterback junior Dustin Vaughan threw 23 of 37 for 331 yards and four touchdowns, while senior running back Khiry Robinson had a season-high 125 yards on the ground on 18 carries and had a 90 receiving yards and a touchdown.  Junior wide receiver Torrence Allen had a game-high 104 yards receiving with two touchdowns.  (Click here for complete release)

 

Midwestern State 34, Incarnate Word 7
Midwestern State's Keidrick Jackson rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead the 14th-ranked Mustangs to a 34-7 win over Incarnate Word Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
 
MSU have now won three consecutive games to improve to 3-1 on the season while the Cardinals fell to 1-4.
 
The Mustangs chewed up 260 yards on the ground while halting six UIW drives in plus territory as the Cardinals struggled mightily to 4-of-17 on third downs and converted just one of eight fourth-down tries. (Click here for complete release)

 

Angelo State 49, Eastern New Mexico 19
Angelo State (3-2, 2-0) quarterbacks Blake Hamblin and Michael Cochran combined for 341 yards passing and two touchdowns as the Rams remained unbeaten in the Lone Star Conference with a 49-19 victory at Eastern New Mexico (2-3, 1-1).

Hamblin completed 7 of 10 passes for 171 yards and two scores and picked up 15 yards on two carries and another score leading ASU to a 28-6 halftime lead.

Hamblin was injured late in the first half and did not return in the second half.  (Click here for complete release)


 
Texas A&M-Commerce 21, Texas A&M-Kingsville 14
Trailing by a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, A&M-Commerce rallied to tie the game with eight seconds remaining, then held off A&M-Kingsville in overtime to notch an emotional 21-14 victory on a rainy night at Memorial Stadium. The Lions halt a four-game skid, improving to 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play, and capture the Chennault Cup for the first time since 2001.

Quarterback Deric Davis led the Lions on the evening, completing 17-of-38 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions while rushing for the game-tying touchdown late in the fourth quarter. On the evening, the Lions held the edge in passing yards, throwing for 214 compared to just 116 for the Javelinas.  (Click here for complete release)

 

Abilene Christian 34, Delta State 28
Abilene Christian University's defense came up with three huge fourth-down stops Thursday night and Mitchell Gale threw three touchdown passes as the Wildcats rebounded with a big 34-28 win over Delta State at McCool Stadium.

The win pushes the Wildcats to 3-2 on the season, while the Statesmen fall to 1-3.  The Wildcats will be back home in Abilene next Saturday (Oct. 6) as they host Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference contest at 6 p.m.  (Click here for complete release)
