Women’s Golf: Tarleton claims sixth straight West Regional title

The Tarleton women's golf team completed their run at a sixth straight Super Regional Championship with a round of 309 on Tuesday, sealing an eight-stroke victory.

The TexAnns entered the day with an eight-stroke lead and maintained margin that with an efficient final round Tuesday. Tarleton finished with a score of 899, while host Grand Canyon and Central Oklahoma shot identical 907's. St. Edward's and CSU-Monterey Bay rounded out the top five.

On the individual side,   Katy Ward tied for first overall with a 217. Sharon Lau and Jessica Pickwick tied for 12th (227), while Jacqueline Lau tied for 21st (229) and Sarah Fulfer tied for 43rd (244).

With the win, the TexAnns have now won six straight West Region titles, dating back to 2007. They also add to their five other first place team finishes this season, including a fifth straight Lone Star Conference Championship.

Tarleton will now head to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships May 16-19.

West Texas A&M and Midwestern State saw their seasons end with sixth (918) and seventh (922) place finishes, respectively. Hammerli Sriyai paced Lady Buffs with a total of 229, which tied for 21st. The Mustangs effort was led by Lauren Romines, who finished tied for 12th (227).

Incarnate Word’s Flower Castillo, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 16th (228).
