Men’s Golf: Cameron finishes first at championship

Cameron stayed in the red to claim its eighth overall Lone Star Conference Men’s Golf Championship title. The annual league event sponsored by Firestone, which features six men’s teams, was held at Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, Texas.

The Aggies were the only team to finish 54 holes under-par at one-under 863 (288-283-292) to earn their first conference crown since 2008. CU’s Garrett Smith led the way at one-under 215 (71-68-76).

Abilene Christian’s Alex Carpenter edged West Texas A&M’s Ben Hargis for individual medalist honors at three-under 213 (78-65-70). The junior also tied for the individual title in 2010 as well.

The men’s all-tournament team included Carpenter, Hargis, Smith, WT’s Blake Crowder, CU’s Trey Lawson and Midwestern State’s Derek Oland.

ACU finished second at three-over 867, while MSU was third at nine-over 873.
