Abilene Christian’s Adam Carpenter and Tarleton State’s Sharon Lau were named the Men’s and Women’s Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference golf academic awards announced by league officials Sunday night at the championship awards banquet.
Lau, a sophomore engineering major from Malaysia, was joined by West Texas A&M’s Alisa White, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Sara Diaz, Angelo State’s Krista Czarnecki and Midwestern State’s Kendra Whittley.
Czarnecki was a repeat selection on the All-Academic Team.
Lau is part of a TexAnn team which boasts nine top-five finishes this season including four first-place efforts. She won the Doc Housewright Invitational and Southwest Classic individual titles.
Carpenter, a finance and management major from Little Rock, Ark., was the only men’s player eligible for academic honors. The junior was named to the all-academic team in 2011 as well.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
