MEN’S
Nick Plum, Abilene Christian University, SR, Richardson, Texas, Pearce HS
Plum won two points for ACU in its 6-3 win over No. 34 Midwestern State last Wednesday. Plum began his night teaming up with Hans Hach at No. 1 singles, and pulled off an 8-6 comeback victory against the Mustang tandem of Jarrod Liston and Tomas Grejtak. Their win represented ACU’s lone doubles point as the Wildcats entered singles down, 2-1. Plum helped ACU flip its fortunes in singles by winning a closely contested match at No. 2 singles against Luke Joyce 7-6 (3), 6-4. Plum’s win extended ACU’s lead to 4-2. Winner of eight of his last 10 matches, Plum is 17-4 overall this season in singles and 17-3 in doubles. With Hach he is 8-0.
CO-WOMEN’S
Micah Hermsdorf, Abilene Christian University, SO, Spring, Texas, Klein HS
Hermsdorf went 2-0 during ACU’s 9-0 win last week over No. 39 Midwestern State, first cruising to a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Hannah Kelley vs. Lindsey Holcomb and Sarita Adhikary, and then quickly dispatching Holcomb at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0. The victories raised Hermsdorf’s records to 18-4 in both singles and doubles. With Kelley she is 12-2.
Elvira Sholles, Cameron University, JR, Paramarbio, Suriname
Sholles picked up an impressive six wins during the week. She kicked things off by sending Southern Nazarene’s Mariana Shipilova packing with a bagel and a breadstick. The win aided the CU squad in documenting the 8-1 decision over the Crimson Storm. She then helped the Aggies collect a comprehensive 9-0 win over St. Mary’s by dispatching both her doubles and singles opponents. She and partner Florencia Tornero eased past their counterparts at the No. 2 doubles slot 8-3. Sholles then routed STMU’s Elisha Bryant 6-0, 6-1 in singles competition. Next up for the Black and Gold was No. 31 Tarleton State. The Suriname native made quick work of Silvia Nieva-Garcia, silencing her 6-2, 6-1. Her strong performance contributed to CU’s 7-2 victory over their conference foe. Sholles’ final two wins of the week came against NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma Christian. Sholles teamed up with Julia Puckhaber to devastate the pair of Gabriela Carrillo and Marta Contel Miranzo in a routine 8-2 decision. The CU junior would go on to defeat Carrillo a second time in singles play, recording a 6-1, 6-3 result. Sholles has had an incredible season for the Aggies. After the week’s action she boasts a solid 20-2 singles record.
