LSC Championship Preview: Session 4

The 2012 LSC Basketball Championship has invaded the city of Allen, Texas. Here’s a preview of the two women’s games in Session 4, featuring the top seed Tarleton State.

Quarterfinal #3 (6 pm)
(4) Cameron vs. (5) Angelo State

Records: Cameron 15-10 overall (11-9 in LSC) / Angelo State 12-14 overall (10-10 in LSC)

 

Regular season series: The team spilt the season series, with the Aggies winning at home on Dec. 3, 56-50 before falling in the rematch in San Angelo, 54-53 in overtime on Feb. 1.

 
Honor Roll:

(CU) Senior center Sabelle Diata was named the LSC Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year, as well as earning first-team All-LSC recognition. Senior forward Julie Paunovic was one of three players to share the LSC Newcomer of the Year and made the All-LSC honorable mention (ASU) Senior forward Paige Weishuhn made the All-LSC second team.

About the Aggies: Cameron has lost four of its last five games, including the final two . . . The Aggies had a 10-game winning streak that spanned more than six weeks . . . Center Sabelle Diata is fourth in the LSC in scoring at 14.6 ppg and first in rebounding at 9.7 rpg . . . Diata has led the Aggies in rebounding for 19 of the 25 games, including the last nine.

 

About the Rambelles: ASU lost six of its last seven regular-season games to finish 10-10 in LSC play after a 9-4 start . . . Lauren Holt leads the team in rebounding at 6.4 per game . . . Freshman guard Haylee Oliver is third in the LSC in 3-point shooting at .388 percent . . . Leah Lemaire ranks fourth with a .831 free-throw shooting percentage.

(1)     Tarleton State vs. (8) Eastern New Mexico

Records: Tarleton State 20-8 overall (17-3 in LSC) / Eastern New Mexico 10-16 overall (8-12 in LSC)

 

Regular season series: Tarleton swept the season series over the Zias, winning at Portales on Dec. 4, 78-70 and then at home in Stephenville, 73-48 on Feb. 15.

 
Honor Roll:

(TSU) Senior Shelby Adamson was the lone player on the All-LSC first team. Her sister Peyton Adamson and Kiara Wright both made the second team. Peyton Adamson shared the Newcomer of the Year with two others. (ENMU) Senior center Precious Herrin earned second-team All-LSC honors.

 

About the TexAnns: TSU started the season 2-5 in the regular season but got hot in LSC play, winning the first 14 conference games . . . Peyton Adamson in the LSC and the nation’s leader in FT percentage at .931 percent . . .Shelby Adamson is the seventh-leading scorer in the LSC at 13.9 ppg . . . Shanae Lowrance leads the LSC in field goal percentage at .568.

 

About the Zias: Precious Herrin is second in the LSC in scoring at 16.1 ppg . . . Herrin also ranks second in field-goal percentage at .534 . . . Herrin ranks 10th in the conference in rebounding at 6.4 . . . Herrin ranks second in blocked shots at 2.3 per game . . . Tori Northcutt ranks sixth in minutes played, averaging 34.4 per game.
