Incarnate Word and Midwestern State both placed six players on the All-Lone Star Conference first team as the 2012 men's soccer awards were announced on Thursday.
The Cardinals, who won the LSC title with a 5-0-1 record, were represented on the first team by James Nero, Leon Taylor, Vincent Bailey, Robin Nicholls, Abraham Campos and Jarred Kahan. Additionally, UIW’s Bailey was tabbed co-Offensive Player of the Year, Nero was named Defensive Player of the Year, Nicholls earned a share of Newcomer of the Year honors and Vince Martinez collected the Coach of the Year award.
The Mustangs first-teamers were Javan Toledo, Len Smith, David Freeland, Aaron Douthit, B.A. Catney and Ray Clark. MSU’s Toledo claimed Freshman of the Year acclaim and Smith was co-Newcomer of the Year as well.
West Texas A&M’s Dom Furness earned co-Offensive Player of the Year to lead a group of seven Buffaloes recognized.
Rounding out the all-conference first team was WT’s Furness and Colin Bjostad, and Eastern New Mexico’s Michael Stewart.
