ENMU men, WT women qualify for NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships

Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M both qualified for the 2012 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships by virtue of their regional finishes.

The two teams will represent the Lone Star Conference at the NCAA Division II Championships on Nov. 17 at the MSSU Course in Joplin, Mo., along with individual qualifiers Dylan Doss (WT) and Ashley Flores (Midwestern State).

The Greyhounds and Lady Buffs continued their postseason success after winning the LSC Championships on October 20.

ENMU qualified for their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships with a fifth-place team finish (174 points).  The Greyhounds were paced by Isaiah Samoei, who was the regional runner-up for the second straight year with a time of 32:10.

WT finished in fifth place with 140 points.  The Lady Buffs were led by Brenda Sindet with a time of 22:26, which earned her seventh-place.

Doss placed 11th (32:43) to earn a spot, while Flores was 19th (22:57).

The top three teams of seven student-athletes from each region automatically qualified.  Additional berths were awarded to regions based on the first eight team finishers at the 2011 championships. The top three individual finishers from each region who are not part of a qualifying team automatically qualified for the championships. In addition, all individual competitors who finish in the top five overall places in their respective regional meet and are not a member of a qualifying team automatically advance to the championships. The list of advancing teams and individuals are available here.
