Eastern New Mexico’s Isaiah Samoei and West Texas A&M’s Brenda Sindet were named the 2012 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Runners of the Year. The awards were announced Wednesday following a vote of the league's head coaches.
The Greyhounds Samoei earned the men’s award, while the Lady Buffs Sindet was the female winner.
Samoei, a senior from Eldoret, Kenya, became ENMU’s first All-American with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships in a school record time of 29:25. His achievement at the national meet followed a runner-up showing at the regional meet and a second straight individual title at the LSC Championships.
Sindet, a junior from Iten, Kenya, earned All-American status by placing 23rd with a time of 21:07 for a new school record at the national meet. She finished seventh at the regional championship after claiming individual medalist honors to lead WT to its first-ever league title.
