Texas A&M-Commerce forward Brionna Minde was named Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year as conference officials announced the women’s soccer academic awards during the LSC Championship banquet on Wednesday.
Minde, a health promotion major, started every game for the Lions. The junior paced the team in points (13) and assists (7), in addition to leading the LSC in assists and assists per game (.41). She was named to the All-LSC first team and All-Academic Team last year.
Joining Minde on the 11-member team are players from Abilene Christian, West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Texas Woman’s, Eastern New Mexico and Midwestern State.
The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible), completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for his/her entire collegiate career.
A&M-C was represented on the team by Minde and Callie Annett. ACU had two players with Julie Coppedge and Krysta Grimm, while ASU added a pair including Jordan Benfield and Lauren Carnes. MSU’s Lainie Lambert and Maddie Fraser were also on the squad along with WT’s Berklee Watson, TWU’s Brittany Martin and ENMU’s Victoria Perez.
