LSC announces cross country honors

The Lone Star Conference recognized 30 student-athletes and two head coaches as league officials announced the annual cross country all-conference honors.

The announcement comes following the LSC Cross Country Championships on October 20. Eastern New Mexico won its second straight men’s title and West Texas A&M captured its first-ever women’s crown.

All-conference honors are given to those runners who finish among the top 15 individually at the conference meet, while additional awards are presented for Coach, Newcomer and Freshman of the Year on both the men’s and women’s side.

WTAMU’s Darren Flowers earned men’s coach of the year honors, while the Lady Buffs Kimberly Dudley was the women’s coach of the year.

Newcomer of the Year acclaim went to ENMU’s Kaspers Briska and Midwestern State’s Abigail Gonzalez.  Texas A&M-Commerce’s Dorian McCradic and WTAMU’s Mireia Guarner claimed Freshman of the Year honors.

The coaching honors were selected by a vote of all the LSC head coaches, while the newcomer and freshman awards went to the highest finishers at the league championships.

The Greyhounds Samoei was the individual medalist for the second consecutive year to headline the all-conference list.  He was joined by teammates Briska, Kevin Roa, Trevor Merhege and Patrick Lueras.

Dylan Doss, Baptiste Moreu and Patrick Scheuchzer represented the runner-up Buffaloes.  Tarleton State was third due to the efforts of All-LSC performers Tye Doty, Chase Rathke, and Miles Joslin.  Recognition also went to A&M-C’s McCradic and Luis Romero, Angelo State’s Jamin Goecker, and Abilene Christian’s Xavier King.

On the women’s side, WTAMU’s Brenda Sindet claimed the women’s individual title, with teammates Guarner, Amber Moore, Emma Love, and Jessica Blakely earning All-LSC honors as well.

MSU finished second with Janel Campbell, Ashley Flores, and Michelle Krezonoski leading the squad, while Incarnate Word was third with top-15 performers Stephanie Glatt, Irma Garza, and Adriana Garcia.  ASU’s Annifer Flores and Emeline Crutcher, ENMU’s Brittany Buchanan and Tarleton’s Celeste Meyer were also on the All-LSC list.
