Men’s Golf Championships: UCO tops leader board after Day 1

Central Oklahoma’s Colby Shrum leads a group of six golfers under-par boosting the Bronchos to a 12-shot advantage at four-under 284 following the first round at the Lone Star Conference Men’s Golf Championships. The annual league event, which features 11 men's teams, is being held at Randolph Oaks Golf Course in San Antonio.

   The field played in temperatures reaching the low 90’s Monday at the par 72, 7,172-yard course.

   UCO is the only team under-par with Shrum at 67 (-5), Andrew Green at 70 (-2) and Josh Creel at 71 (-1). Shrum had three birdies at the turn and added an eagle on the par-5 10th hole before finishing with eight consecutive pars.

   Abilene Christian (296), Northeastern State (301), West Texas A&M (301), Texas A&M-Commerce (302), and Cameron (303) are behind the Bronchos after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event.

   NSU’s Casey Nelson is among the group under-par with a 68 (-4), followed by WTAMU’s Ben Hargis 69 (-3) and ACU’s Alex Carpenter 71 (-1).
